IT, cybersecurity and Prometheus for Nigerian healthcare organisations

Clinics, laboratories and care providers depend on systems that are available when patients arrive and protect the health data they hold. We manage that technology so your staff can focus on care.

Challenges we see

Healthcare organisations carry the pressures of any business plus the sensitivity of health records. In clinics, diagnostic labs, allied health practices and community care providers, we most often see:

  • Downtime that affects patients. When the records system, lab system, scheduling tool or network fails, appointments back up and results are delayed. Grid outages make this worse where power backup is not planned.
  • Patient health data everywhere. Records sit in clinical systems, lab systems, email, shared drives, scanners, messaging apps and staff phones, often with broad access and weak audit trails.
  • Ransomware and phishing. Healthcare is a frequent target because records are valuable and downtime creates pressure to pay.
  • Ageing equipment and unmanaged devices. Workstations attached to diagnostic equipment, shared front-desk PCs and personal devices used for work are hard to patch and monitor.
  • Fragmented vendors. Records-system vendors, internet providers, phone companies and equipment suppliers each own part of the problem, and nobody coordinates them.
  • Growing virtual care. Video visits, patient portals and secure messaging add new systems that need the same privacy controls as the clinic.

How Promatics helps

Our managed IT services give your organisation one accountable team for daily IT, including direct coordination with your clinical system, lab and equipment vendors so staff are not caught in vendor roulette when something breaks. For healthcare clients this typically covers:

  • A fully remote, 24/7 help desk for managed-service clients, with priorities and response targets set in the service agreement.
  • System design and networking, including segmented networks for clinical devices, guest Wi-Fi kept separate from clinical systems, reliable links between sites, redundant internet connections and power backup (UPS, inverter or solar) for the network and critical devices.
  • Software licence management and hardware procurement and inventory, with asset records that show where every device holding health data is.
  • Cabling and phone systems for new clinics and renovations.
  • On-site systems maintenance and installations where your service agreement includes on-site work.
  • A layered cybersecurity stack aligned with recognised frameworks such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework: multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection, email filtering, encryption and logging. See cybersecurity services.
  • Secure collaboration through Microsoft 365, configured with data loss prevention and access policies suited to health data.
  • Backups you can restore, tested regularly through backup and disaster recovery.

A virtual CIO runs strategic assessments, gap analysis and project management, and our data protection and compliance readiness work helps you document safeguards, access controls and breach response procedures.

AI can draft letters, summarise long records and read referral and intake forms, but health information demands strict controls. We assess and govern AI use, keep personal health information out of unapproved tools and design clinician or staff review into every workflow. See AI governance and security. Where records must not leave your environment, we can run open-weight AI models on servers you control.

Nigerian regulatory and operating context

  • Data protection. Health data is sensitive personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), enforced by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). It calls for a lawful basis, tighter safeguards, data protection impact assessments for high-risk processing and, for larger processors of personal data, registration with the NDPC. A breach likely to risk individuals' rights and freedoms must be notified to the NDPC within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
  • Confidentiality of health records. The National Health Act 2014 sets confidentiality duties for information about users of health services, and the Federal Ministry of Health and state ministries of health issue further guidance for facilities.
  • Public-sector hosting. Government-owned facilities may also be shaped by NITDA guidelines and the Nigeria Cloud Computing Policy, including local hosting expectations for government data.
  • Virtual care. Video and messaging platforms used for care should meet the same privacy and security expectations as in-person systems, and professional bodies publish expectations for practitioners providing remote care.
  • Data location. Many organisations prefer to keep health data in Nigeria. There is no major public cloud region in the country, so the practical options are local data centres in Lagos or Abuja, or regions abroad chosen in line with the NDPA's transfer rules. Contracts and support access matter as much as location.

This is general information, not legal advice. We help you prepare and document safeguards; we do not certify compliance.

Prometheus for healthcare

Prometheus ERP includes a healthcare edition: a web-based, highly configurable system designed to run a lab or clinic workflow from end to end in real time, from sample collection to diagnosis and patient history. It lets you:

  • Manage patient details.
  • Create appointments and consults for patients.
  • Record patient encounters with the consultation document.
  • Manage assessments, prescriptions and medical coding from a single place.

It runs alongside Prometheus accounting, inventory, purchasing and HR, and can be deployed on-premises, in a local data centre or in a cloud region abroad.
