Android app development

Android runs on everything from budget and mid-range phones to rugged warehouse scanners. We build native Kotlin apps that perform across that range, release them on Google Play or privately, and keep them current.

Who this service is for

A good fit if

  • Many of your customers or staff use Android phones or tablets.
  • Staff carry rugged scanners in warehouses, stores, vehicles or on site.
  • You need kiosk or shared-device apps, or deep hardware and background access.
  • An existing Java app needs modernising, stabilising or new features.

What is included

  • Discovery summary, or a technical review with prioritised recommendations
  • Kotlin and Jetpack Compose app, proven architecture, Material Design, your brand
  • Existing Java code maintained or gradually migrated
  • Sign-in with your identity provider; secrets in the Android Keystore
  • Firebase push notifications, crash reporting, consent-aware analytics
  • Release through Play testing tracks or private managed Google Play

What we build on Android

Native apps get full hardware and background access, tuned across many devices. We build new apps, extend existing ones and modernise Java. Many users are on mid-range phones and mobile data, so we keep screens light and let key tasks work offline where it matters.

Customer apps

Accounts, bookings, ordering, payments, loyalty.

Field and warehouse apps

Scanning, photos, signatures, offline work, linked to your ERP or Prometheus.

Kiosk and shared devices

One-purpose tablets for visitor check-in or a shop-floor terminal.

Device hardware

NFC, Bluetooth printers and accessories, location and camera.

  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose
  • Android Jetpack
  • Android Studio
  • Play Console testing tracks
  • Automated build pipelines

Need iOS too? We build a matching native iOS app, or cross-platform may serve both better.

Rescuing existing apps

A missed target API deadline can stop Google Play updates, old libraries lose fixes and years-old Java is hard to change safely. Our approach:

  1. ReviewCode, crash and performance reports, store feedback.
  2. FixThe most urgent problems first.
  3. ModerniseScreen by screen to Kotlin and Compose, app live.
  4. DecideA written review sets how far to go.

Enterprise deployment and upkeep

Android Enterprise gives you control of internal apps:

Managed Google Play

Private apps for your staff only; dedicated-device mode makes kiosks.

Work profiles

Business data apart from personal data on employee-owned phones.

Device management

Intune or similar installs apps, aligned with our managed IT.

Google Play requires a Data safety section and a recent target API level; we maintain both around yearly Android releases, updating libraries before support ends. Sensitive data stays encrypted, never in plain files or logs. Managed-service clients can include the app's backend in 24/7 monitoring and support, with response targets set in the service agreement.

Data protection. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) shapes what an app collects, the lawful basis and consent it relies on, and how users exercise their rights. General information, not legal advice.
Delivery

How the work is delivered

  1. Discover or review

New app: users, devices, features, first release. Existing app: code, crashes, dependencies, Play feedback.

Output: Discovery summary or technical review.

  2. Design

Material Design screens in your brand, adapted to the devices and screen sizes in use.

    Output: Approved designs and prototype.

  3. Build

Kotlin in short iterations; test builds reach real devices through internal testing tracks.

    Output: Test builds.

  4. Test and release

Device matrix, accessibility and Data safety checks, then a staged Google Play release or private deployment.

    Output: Released app.

  5. Maintain

Meet Google Play target API requirements, update dependencies and act on crash reports.

    Output: Maintenance plan, regular updates.

Scope at a glance

Not included unless agreed

  • Google Play registration fee, and test or production devices
  • Device management licences and fleet setup, unless under managed IT
  • Out-of-scope backends; ongoing support without a separate agreement

What we need from you

  • Play account in your organisation's name; managed Google Play if private
  • Access to the APIs and systems the app uses
  • Rugged or specialised device samples; a product owner approving designs, releases

Before handover

  • Tested on an agreed device matrix and your actual rugged models
  • TalkBack, font scaling and colour contrast checked on key screens
  • Upload key, Play account and code in your name; signing documented

What affects the cost

  • Screens and features
  • Devices, screen sizes and Android versions supported
  • Scanners, printers, NFC or Bluetooth; offline sync
  • Condition of existing code, if modernising

No package prices: estimates in naira from an agreed scope, taxes shown separately.

Questions buyers usually ask

Why is Android testing harder than iOS?

Android runs on many manufacturers' devices with different screens, hardware and versions. We agree a realistic device matrix based on who uses the app and test on those real devices, not every phone.

Can the app work with our rugged scanners?

Usually. Manufacturers such as Zebra and Honeywell provide Android interfaces for their built-in scanners. We confirm support for your models early and test on them.

Can you take over our existing Java app?

Yes. We review and stabilise the code, then move it to Kotlin screen by screen, since Kotlin and Java work together in the same app.

Building or rescuing an Android app?

Tell us what the app should do, who uses it and on which devices. We will arrange a conversation before anything is priced.
