Telemedicine and virtual care platforms for Nigerian providers

Patients expect to book, consult and follow up online, and many care models depend on it. We help clinics, provider networks and digital health companies build telehealth apps, web platforms and integrations with existing systems.

Challenges we see

Virtual care is now a lasting part of how care is delivered in Nigeria, not a stopgap. Providers and digital health companies running it face:

Patchwork tools

Consumer video and messaging apps, separate booking, email and paper: privacy gaps, duplicate data entry.

Clinical integration

Visits write back to patient records, trigger billing, send prescriptions or lab requests; each system differs.

Privacy by design

Video, chat, uploads and phones carry health information: encryption, identity checks, audit logs, hosting location.

Access for every patient

Older patients, limited bandwidth, mobile-first users and assistive technology users must all manage.

Clinician adoption

If the platform adds clicks, clinicians go back to the phone.

Reliability

Down at nine: a full waiting room, nowhere to go. Plan for power and network interruptions.

How Promatics helps

We build and support virtual care technology end to end.

Web and mobile platforms

Booking, intake, video, secure messaging, uploads, follow-up; tested with real patients and staff on low-bandwidth mobile.

Integration

Patient records, scheduling, payment and billing through each vendor's supported interfaces; information entered once.

Hosting

Local data centres or regions abroad, per NDPA and sector rules; monitored, backed up, documented recovery.

Security

Secure development, staff MFA, encryption in transit and at rest, logging, vulnerability testing; NIST CSF-aligned.

Data protection readiness

Data protection impact assessments, data flow maps and breach response procedures.

For the clinic side, managed IT adds a remote 24/7 help desk for managed-service clients, and a virtual CIO for assessments, gap analysis and projects as your programme grows.

More detail
  • Platforms include clinician and administrator views; designs are tested before launch.
  • Clinic managed IT also covers system design and networking, software licence management, hardware procurement and inventory, cabling and phone systems, and on-site systems maintenance where your agreement includes it.

Platforms are adding AI for intake, documentation and patient messaging. We design it with privacy, testing and clinician review built in (governance, development), and where records must not leave your environment, run open-weight models on servers you control.

Nigerian regulatory and operating context

TopicWhat applies
Health dataUnder the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), health data is sensitive personal data; the National Health Act 2014 sets confidentiality duties. Platforms should support access logging, consent tracking and breach notification, including telling the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) within 72 hours of becoming aware of a breach likely to risk people's rights and freedoms.
Controller and processor dutiesDigital health companies are likely controllers or processors: a lawful basis, data subject rights, impact assessments for high-risk processing and, depending on scale, NDPC registration.
Professional regulationCouncils such as the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria set expectations for remote consultation, including consent and documentation. Your platform should make those steps easy.
Medical devicesSoftware intended to diagnose or treat may fall under medical device requirements overseen by NAFDAC and the Federal Ministry of Health. We flag this early so you can get regulatory advice.
Data locationThere is no major public cloud region in Nigeria: hosting means local data centres or regions abroad. NDPA transfer rules apply, and contracts and support access matter as much as where servers sit.
General information, not legal advice. We do not certify compliance.
