IT, cybersecurity and Prometheus for Nigerian schools, colleges and training providers

Schools and colleges run on shared devices, busy networks and records that must stay private for years. We manage the IT behind teaching and administration and help you run admissions, fees and student records in one system.

Challenges we see

Private schools, colleges, nursing and health sciences schools, language schools and corporate training providers face a mix of classroom and administrative IT problems:

  • Networks under peak load. Classrooms full of devices, online exams and video lectures push Wi-Fi and internet links to their limits at the same moment.
  • Shared and student devices. Labs, library computers and loaner laptops need to be reset, patched and filtered without constant hands-on work.
  • Student records spread out. Admissions, fees, attendance, grades and transcripts often live in separate spreadsheets and tools, which makes reporting to regulators and funders slow.
  • Account churn. Every intake and graduation creates and retires hundreds of accounts, and missed removals leave doors open.
  • Phishing and ransomware. Education is a common target, and staff and students are not always trained to spot suspicious messages.
  • Small IT teams and unreliable power. One coordinator often supports teaching staff, administration and learners across several sites, while grid outages interrupt labs and online classes.

How Promatics helps

Our managed IT services take on daily support and maintenance so teaching and administrative staff can get on with their work. For education clients this typically covers:

  • A fully remote, 24/7 help desk for managed-service clients, with priorities and response targets set in the service agreement, and self-service password resets for staff and learners.
  • System design and networking sized for classroom density, with separate networks for staff, learners, guests and building systems, plus content filtering, redundant internet links and power backup for the network core.
  • Software licence management, including education licensing programmes where you qualify.
  • Hardware procurement and inventory for labs, classrooms and staff, with device management that makes resets and updates routine.
  • Cabling and phone systems for new classrooms and campuses.
  • On-site systems maintenance where your service agreement includes on-site work.
  • A layered cybersecurity stack aligned with recognised frameworks such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. See cybersecurity services.

We set up Microsoft 365 for teaching and administration with Teams classes, SharePoint and automated account provisioning tied to enrolment, and cybersecurity awareness training for staff. Our web development team builds accessible, mobile-friendly websites and application forms, and a virtual CIO provides strategic assessments, gap analysis and project management for multi-year technology plans.

Prometheus for education

Prometheus ERP can serve as a single system for admissions, student records, fees and billing, attendance, HR, payroll, purchasing and accounting, with portals for learners and staff. We have deployed Prometheus for a nursing and health sciences college; see the Merit College of Nursing Sciences case study for how the project was run.

Nigerian regulatory and operating context

  • Regulators and accreditation. The National Universities Commission (NUC) oversees universities, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) oversees polytechnics and technical colleges, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria oversees nursing schools, under the Federal Ministry of Education and state ministries. Each expects accurate records for accreditation and reporting.
  • Public institutions. Public universities, polytechnics and colleges are subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2011, and NITDA guidelines and the Nigeria Cloud Computing Policy may shape how public institutions host systems and data.
  • Data protection. Student and staff data is personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), enforced by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. Records about minors call for particular care, and a breach likely to risk individuals' rights and freedoms must be notified to the NDPC within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
  • Student records. Systems should make retention and secure disposal of admissions files, results and transcripts routine, in line with your regulator's requirements and your own policy.
  • Accessibility. The Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 sets a general accessibility duty without naming a web standard, so targeting WCAG 2.2 AA for portals and learning platforms is good practice.

This is general information, not legal advice. We help you prepare safeguards and documentation; we do not certify compliance.

Questions schools ask

Can you manage our systems between terms? Yes. We plan upgrades, device refreshes and network changes for breaks so teaching is not disrupted.
