IT and business systems for Nigerian transportation and logistics companies

In logistics, the product is being available, shipped and delivered on time. We keep the dispatch office, the warehouse and the drivers' tools connected and secure, and help your systems share data instead of relying on re-keying.

Challenges we see

Transportation and logistics companies run around the clock, across many locations, with staff who are rarely at a desk. That shapes the IT problems:

  • Operations never stop, but IT support does. Dispatch, warehouse and driver issues happen at night and on weekends, and a locked account or a failed printer can hold up a load.
  • Many systems, little integration. Transportation management (TMS), warehouse management (WMS), vehicle tracking and telematics platforms, accounting, customer portals and EDI connections often run side by side, with staff re-keying orders, proofs of delivery and invoices between them.
  • Connectivity and power at the edges. Terminals, cross-docks and yards need reliable wired and wireless networks for scanners, printers and mobile devices. Remote sites often depend on a single internet link and on grid power that is not always steady.
  • Mobile devices and rugged hardware. Tablets, handhelds and in-cab devices need to be procured, enrolled, updated and replaced quickly when they fail.
  • Targeted attacks. Freight fraud, fake carrier identities, invoice redirection and ransomware all target logistics firms because timing and payments are critical.

How Promatics helps

Our managed IT services give you one accountable provider for daily IT, so dispatch is not stuck on hold or chasing several vendors while systems are down. For logistics operations we typically provide:

  • A fully remote, 24/7 help desk for managed-service clients through our IT help desk service, with priorities and response targets agreed in the service agreement.
  • System design and networking for terminals, warehouses and offices, including warehouse Wi-Fi, site-to-site links and backup connections (fibre plus a second ISP or 4G/5G failover), with UPS, inverter or solar planning for critical equipment. See network and connectivity services.
  • Software licence management across dispatch, office and mobile users.
  • Hardware procurement and inventory for workstations, handhelds, label printers and rugged devices, with warranty tracking.
  • Cabling and phone systems for new terminals and expansions.
  • On-site systems maintenance and installations where your service agreement includes on-site work.
  • A layered cybersecurity stack aligned with recognised frameworks such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, with extra attention to email fraud and payment-change verification. See cybersecurity services.

A virtual CIO runs strategic assessments, gap analysis and project management, checking that network capacity, hardware, software and security fit the way you work in the yard, on the road and in the office.

On the systems side, business system integration connects your TMS, WMS, vehicle tracking, accounting and customer portals so orders, delivery confirmations and invoices flow without re-keying. Prometheus ERP can handle accounting, purchasing, inventory, fleet-related costs, HR and projects in one place, and connect to the specialist logistics platforms you keep.

Nigerian regulatory and operating context

  • Vehicles, drivers and routes. Fleet operators deal with vehicle and driver licensing, roadworthiness and road safety requirements set by federal and state authorities. We do not supply vehicle tracking hardware, but we support the networks, devices and integrations that move tracking and dispatch data into your office systems.
  • Cross-border freight. Goods moving across borders involve the Nigeria Customs Service and, within the region, ECOWAS and AfCFTA trade arrangements. Reliable, secure connections to customs systems and to your clearing agents matter.
  • Regulated and hazardous cargo. Carriers moving petroleum products, chemicals or other regulated goods keep documentation under the rules of the relevant agency, such as NMDPRA for downstream petroleum, which often lives in your TMS or document system.
  • Data protection. Driver records, vehicle location data and customer information are personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), enforced by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. Location tracking of employees needs a clear purpose and notice.
  • Tax and payments. Invoicing and payment workflows need to reflect VAT and withholding tax treatment as your tax adviser advises.

Questions logistics companies ask

Can you support drivers and night-shift staff? Yes. Managed-service clients have 24/7 access to the help desk, and we set up self-service password resets and mobile device management to reduce after-hours calls.

Will you replace our TMS? Usually not. Most logistics firms keep their specialist platforms; we make them reliable, secure and connected to the rest of the business.
